ABOUT THIS COOK:

It's taken me 40 years, but I've finally come to the conclusion that good food makes me happy and great coffee makes me even happier. Being in a bustling kitchen reminds me of my childhood and connects me to my parents - both of whom love to cook. When I recall my travels, food takes center stage....I can't always tell you who I met or what I saw, but I can definitely recount the amazing food! After a restless life of travel, I settled back down in Portland, OR with my husband, two cats, two rescued house rabbits and three chickens on our urban "farm".

  • What is the strangest food you have ever eaten?
A toss-up between bologna cups (my mom's disgusting invention in the 70s) and octopus suction cups (again, mom in the 70s)

  • What do you cook when home alone?
    Homemade mac & cheese

  • Your most treasured kitchen possession:
There are so many. The zaatar I brought back in bulk from the Middle East... I adore my kitchenaid and my chemex, as well as all my vintage enameled cast iron cookware. I think food tastes better in cookware that's been previously loved and shared with the next generation.

  • The ideal number of guests for a dinner party is:
    8
