I taught myself how to cook. The women in my family cook but I never had any interest as a child or teenager, or young adult. Unfortunetly, Mom died when I was 24, and her skills were inherited by my little sister. At 33 years old, having moved out of my NYC studio apartment, I got engaged & married and moved into a house in CT with a huge kitchen and many shiny new kitchen toys and gadgets. I caught the bug. Cooking is a way I connect with my Mom, stress reducer for when life is trying, and a confidence booster for those who laughed when I told them, "Yes, I made this!" Also, it's a passive-aggressive attempt to put my mother-in-law in her place. Oh, I love condiments, and never follow a recipe exactly (even the first time), unless I'm asked to. To that end, baking is not so much fun, a chore - unless its a quick bread. I eat salads most of the time for breakfast. Why not? I'm really enoying this site and appreciate the creativity and passion of all the members.
