Crock of gold.

Can you keep a secret? A French-style crock like this one gives you soft, spreadable butter on tap. Here’s how it works: Fill the top with the good stuff—it holds almost a stick’s worth—and add a bit of water to the bottom dish. Then, you’re good to keep your butter at room temp for up to a week. We asked our friends at New York Stoneware to create the keeper you see here, just for us. It was hand designed, thrown, trimmed, glazed, and fired in a small studio in the Bronx (just a few more reasons it’ll be a fast favorite).

A few more tips to get the butter-keeping going...
  • The lid should be full, but not overflowing. Three-fourths to a whole stick should do the trick.

  • When you add water to the bottom dish, make sure it’s enough to touch the top of your butter when you put the lid on.

  • To keep things fresher than fresh, change the water in your keeper every 2 to 3 days.

  • If your butter is softer than you’d like, pop it in the fridge till it’s that just-right texture.

  • Made in: Bronx, New York
  • Product Warranty:
  • Shipping & Returns: Free Standard Shipping on Orders $199+ and Easy-Breezy Returns

Meet the Maker

New York Stoneware

Bronx, NY
Beginning with a goal to create pottery that could be incorporated into people’s everyday lives, Will Reardon founded New York Stoneware in the Bronx in 2013. Every object that comes from his studio is soulful, functional, and completely handmade by him and his team. We’re looking forward to using their beautiful pieces in our homes again and again (and again).
