    adamnsvetcooking's Notes:

This is an innovative way to spice up your ketchup. Works great with sweet potatoes fries or as a BBQ sauce on top of chicken and steak. - adamnsvetcooking

Makes About 3 cups

  1. Heat up the oil in a sauce pot at medium high. Add the sliced onion, cook for few minutes, and add the garlic. Caramelize the onions, about 10 mins.

  2. Add ketchup, apple sauce, paprika, cumin, and the diced chipotle with it juice. Season with salt and pepper. Bring down the heat to simmer and cook for about 30 to 40 mins.

Congrats adamnsvetcooking on your ep! I love this recipe and find myself craving it. I did make a milder version, which is really super with sweet potato fries. And my son has requested the hotter version!

My son still raves about this recipe! It is the only ketchup he wants now. Even though things are crazy busy right now, I am going to find the time to make more.

Since I was fresh out of chipotle in adobo, I resorted to a major variation with this recipe using fresh ginger and calvados instead: You have inspired me to work with applesauce and ketchup further! Such a great combination.

I made this yesterday and had it with steak, and it was wonderful....tonight we had it with sweet potato fries and it was really, truly great together! My son took some home with him because he loved it so much! I don't think we will want regular ketchup again after this.
