Cut tops off of tomatoes, and scoop out the insides. Dice the insides and toss into a bowl.

This looks like a nice, old fashioned recipe. Great picture too. I love your story about your grandma. My gran loved tomatoes too, and when she came to visit, she'd send us down to the garden for a fresh tomato, and then slice it in thick slices, all nice and warm from the sun, slather it with mayo and we'd eat it on the spot~thanks for reminding me!
