Author Notes

When I was a kid, our neighbors Gretchen and Padgett held a Twelfth Night party every year. While the grownups drank cup after cup of Wassail, I parked myself near the cookie tray to inhale Gretchen’s Tea Time Tassies, one after another until the tray was empty. Knowing how much I loved them, Gretchen gave me the recipe and a carton of tassies for my 12th birthday.

NOTE: You will need one or two mini-muffin pans for these. —mtrelaun

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • Shells
  • 3 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 stick of butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 cup flour
  • Filling
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1 dash salt
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 325° F.
  2. Blend softened cream cheese with butter/margarine. Stir in flour. Chill one hour.
  3. While dough is chilling, prepare the filling. Beat together the egg, brown sugar, vanilla, chopped nuts and salt until smooth.
  4. Remove the chilled dough from the refrigerator, and begin preparing the shells. Shape dough into balls 1" in diameter. Place in ungreased mini muffin pans or little tartlette tins, and press dough against sides and bottom to create the shell.
  5. Fill each shell about 3/4 full with filling. Bake for 30 minutes until set.
  6. Once the Tea Time Tassies have cooled, tip them out of the pans and sprinkle them with confectioner's sugar.
