Serves 6

  1. In a small bowl mix all the first set of ingredient's together for the "homemade spicy tomato ketchup" and set aside

  2. Saute the first four ingredients in a pan until the onions are transparent to golden, be careful not to burn the onions. Set aside to cool

  3. in a large mixing bowl mix together the beef, veal, breadcrumbs eggs, mustard powder, salt and pepper

  4. Add the onion mixture to the meat mixture.

  5. make into a large ball or log shape and put in a loaf or shallow baking pan

  6. top the meatloaf with homemade sauce

  7. Bake in a 350 degree oven for approximately 1 hour and 15 Min

  8. Let rest 15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with parsley

Hello chez lady S! Made your meatloaf tonight with the single change of using ketchup instead of your homemade glaze - it was delicious! Even my picky 10-yr-old ate TWO pieces - that's saying something! Thanks for sharing this.

Really like the homemade glaze . . . . I can easily buy June Taylor's ketchup (really, really tasty, by the way) so I usually have it on hand. It's nice to have a backup though, not to mention that you've added all those yummy flavors to your sauce. Very nicely done!!

June Taylor makes a mean ketchup but at $14 it's a bit excessive.
