In a large pot bring enough water to cover potatoes to a boil and cook about 10 to 15 minutes, until tender. Drain and return to same pot to help steam off any excess water in potatoes.
Ask a question about this stepIn the meantime combine milk, butter and garlic in a medium sauce pot and simmer, being careful not to boil, over medium low, about 10 minutes until slightly thickened and flavors have melded.
Ask a question about this stepWorking in batches press potatoes through a ricer into a medium mixing bowl until all are used. Slowly pour warm milk mixture over potatoes and using a spatula or wooden spoon gently fold potatoes until milk is incorporated and potatoes are fluffy and creamy.
