Heat the oven to 350. Grease and flour (or spray) a standard loaf pan.
Ask a question about this stepToast the walnuts in a skillet over medium heat, then set them aside. Add the butter and sage to the skillet and cook until the butter browns - follow your nose, it should smell nutty and sagey and not at all scorched. Turn off the heat.
Ask a question about this stepWhisk the eggs and brown sugar together. Add in the oil and whisk that. Mix in the flour, soda, powder and salt. Now stir in the browned butter, then fold in the pears and walnuts. It's going to seem kind of wet - don't worry.
Ask a question about this stepScrape into the loaf pan, sprinkle with the demerarra, and into the oven for an hour. Test for doneness, then cool a bit before you flip it out of the pan. Slice and eat!!!
Ask a question about this stepLooking good! And super easy (my kind of recipe.) Can't wait to try this one, Abbie.
this is beautiful, Abbie! i'm going to make it asap!
Count me as another who will be making your wonderful sounding bread soon!!
I was wondering what I was going to do with our "double shipments" of Harry & David pears. Will make this as a last reprieve before Serious. Diet.Serious.Exercise.
Sounds great - would never have thought to make a sweet/savory loaf like that!
Looks devine and I bet it tastes great. Perfect to make as a hostess gift or expected house guests. Saved to try out!
I love this recipe, making it this weekend. Amazing combo of flavors. I don't have white whole wheat flour can sub AP flour?
Absolutely - I was wavering between the two. You could also do a cup of AP and 1/4 regular WW. If you want!
I may be double posting ... but YES! Or you could do 1 c AP and 1/4 c WW if you like
I will let you know how it goes, making it on Saturday, Will toast in the New Year with a slice of this and a cup of eggnog, Then I'll go on a diet!! Great recipe.
I made this yesterday and its beyond amazing! Not to sweet, the sage and pears go so well together. The bread is moist and delicious! Love this recipe!!
Yum! This would be great with a cup of tea as an afternoon snack.
