I threw this together for our 4th of July barbecue and it disappeared fast. The lavender/lemon combination is super refreshing on a hot day. - muddybootskitchen —muddybootskitchen

Test Kitchen Notes

I confess to being a lover of lavender. It's floral and herbal fragrance and flavor are intoxicating. With this recipe, Muddybootskitchen has expertly combined lavender lemonade into a light and refreshing cocktail. The lavender and lemon are in good balance, and the light effervescence really makes it sing. Make sure to chose (or make) a tart lemonade, or it could be a bit too sweet. You can tailor the amount of vodka to your liking, or could simply enjoy this as a lovely non-alcoholic summer thirst quencher. - hardlikearmour —hardlikearmour

  1. Make the lavender simple syrup. Bring the lavender, sugar and water to a boil in a small saucepan. Simmer a few minutes or until sugar dissolves and let cool.

I don't like to make food out of store-bought stuff that I could make on my own, so I replaced the 1/2 gallon of lemonade with 1/2 cup sugar, 3 cups water, and juice (and a bit of pulp) of 3.5 lemons. I then added the lavender syrup as prescribed. But instead of mixing the club soda and the vodka into the lemonade, I added a splash of club soda to each drink as I served it and anywhere from 0 to 4 glugs of Grey Goose vodka depending on each person's preference. The result was delicious - it tasted like lemonade with a slight hint of lavender, and you couldn't taste the vodka at all (which is how I like it).

Here are some more thoughts on why I adapted the recipe in this way, making the lemonade from scratch instead of using store-bought: http://bottomupfood.wordpress.com/2011/07/24/homemade-lavender-lemonade-naughty-or-nice/

I love honey-lavender lemonade, and I'm sure I'd love this too! Sounds perfect for a hot summer day/evening.
