Author Notes

Born of a love of ginger fused with an artisanal gin into a lovely slushy-type mixture, topped up with seltzer water. Order up a hot afternoon, serve with a generous wedge of lime.

My favorite gin to use is Cascade Mountain, made in small batches in Bend, Oregon. —boulangere

What You'll Need
Ingredients
  • Large handful of ice cubes
  • 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
  • 1 tablespoon agave nectar
  • 2 ounces good gin
  • 1 lime, cut in wedges
Directions
  1. Place all ingredients in a blender. Blend on high speed until the consistency of a slushy. Divide between 2 chilled glasses, and top up with cold seltzer. Add a good wedge of lime to each. Toast to summer. Or the Dallas Mavericks.

I haven't tasted that in so long, I'd actually forgotten about it. Yes, it is lovely.

I'm not sure anyone got off without a trying winter. Summer is more than welcome here, too.

This sounds really refreshing. I love the color & aroma of the Cascade Gin. I do have to admit I'm partial to Aviation Gin (also made in Oregon.)

boulangere June 2, 2011
I was hoping you would weigh in on the Oregon factor. Haven't seen Aviation here. There was one I could get here last summer that had Desert in the name, I think. It was the best I've ever tasted. Does that sound familiar to you?

hardlikearmour June 2, 2011
I think you mean the Desert Juniper gin. http://www.handcraftedgin.com/
Aviation is another beast entirely - not a ginny gin, so you may not like it.

boulangere June 2, 2011
That's it, Desert Juniper! I loved it and I have no idea why it's not back this summer. Ginny gins don't matter, I love complexity of flavors and will keep an eye peeled for yours. Alternatively, I swear I am going to work out a meetup this fall somewhere in the PNW. MT, especially central-eastern MT is too far from everyone, but I have a nephew in Seattle . . . . details this summer.

There's a whole lot of rocking going on tonight as the closing minutes tick down. This contest has been SO much more interesting than I thought it was going to be.

Bend, Ore is such a darling town! And this sounds so refreshing! Definitely noticing an "adult" theme to these soda fountain treats!

Heading out right now to buy some agave nectar .. this sounds spectacular. I am, however, going to use Hendricks Gin ...
