Serves 4

  1. Mix together the first 4 ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk together butter, egg, and milk. Add dry ingredients to wet, and stir until flour is dampened. Set aside.

  2. For each sandwich, spread one slice bread with mustard, and layer with (in following order) 2 slices gruyere, 2 slices ham, sprinkle parmesan, 2 slices turkey, ground pepper, 2 slices gouda, other piece of bread. Repeat for all 4 sandwiches.

  3. Heat butter in skillet or griddle to medium heat.

  4. Pour half of batter in shallow dish, and for each sandwich, dip in batter in shallow dish, and pour batter over top to coat. Grill each sandwich- about 2-3 minutes on each side until batter is golden brown and cheese is melted.

  5. Serve dusted with powdered sugar.
