3/4 ounces fresh orange juice, strained to remove pulp Ask a question about this ingredient
1/2 ounce pomegranate liqueur Ask a question about this ingredient
1/2 ounce vodka (80 or 100 proof based on preference) Ask a question about this ingredient
additional 100 proof vodka (or other high proof clear liquor) Ask a question about this ingredient
Pour ginger liqueur into 2.5 oz tall & skinny shot-type glass.
Ask a question about this stepRest spoon inside glass with convex surface up, and tip resting on inner side of glass. Very carefully and slowly pour orange juice onto spoon so that it runs down inner side of glass in a gentle stream. The slower this happens the better the separation of layers.
Ask a question about this stepMix pomegranate liqueur and vodka together, and pour into glass carefully using the same process as the orange juice.
Ask a question about this stepPour a thin layer of the high proof vodka onto the surface of the pomegranate layer. Dim the lights, and light your shot. I'm not brave enough to drink it on fire, so I recommend blowing out the flame before drinking it! You can either drink it like a shot, or stir and sip.
Ask a question about this step(Cooks note: I got my best separation of layers using a 30 ml syringe to drizzle the liquids down the inside of the glass, and recommend using this method for crisp layers. You can typically find them at feed stores or medical supply stores)
Ask a question about this stepThank you!
Made this as part of a boozy brunch. Mini versions make cool shots.
Great idea! Thanks for giving them a try!
Thanks for the lovely review, TiggyBee! So glad you had fun making them.
Hmm...Amazing colors,Ginger....I do love the flavor of ginger.....Need to try this one with a dinner pairing!
The ginger liqueur is incredible. We were at a friend's dinner party, and a group of 8 of us polished of a bottle in one night.!
Who drove home?
It's only 28% alcohol, so each person had about 2 T of pure alcohol over the course of several hours.
Just a joke!
No worries! I just don't want anyone to think I'm advocating drinking and driving!
me too! the comments have been great.
I swear, if you look closely, there's a bit of a mitt shaped thingy on the bottom of the glass and some sort of a newt-ish looking deal, smack dab in the middle and floating on the top near the flame is a wicked comb-over. I'm off to hunt for the pomegranate liqueur today.
TiggyBee, that is beyond hilarious! :)
TiggyBee, you are so creatively perceptive! I just got some PAMA so I can make this when special friends visit next month for a special toast.
Oh, TiggyBee, you are a riot!
You need to send this whole thing to Jon Stewart!
That would be a hoot!
For a change, I'm actually not kidding!
Oh, the flavors! Beautiful, just beautiful--and it looks good, too. I used to think that there was no drink more beautiful than a sweaty glass of iced sweet tea with a lemon pinwheel on it.
I hope it's easier to swallow than some of the stuff the other GOP tries to ram down our throats. Did I really say that? You betcha! : D
You crack me up!
I am howling! This is too great!
Oh, betteirene, in case I haven't said this often enough, you ROCK!!
Major WOW factor!!! Really spectacular! You are so creative. And I love the name...
Thanks, ChezSuzanne! I thank the martini party we had last summer, which helped provide my liquor stock!
Love the title! Brilliant. Recipe sounds amazing too. I was also developing a flaming cocktail recipe, but yours is just too divine...back to the drawing board.
There's always room for more flaming cocktails, and you always have great recipes! Bring it on.
As I lifelong political liberal, I wish you had picked another name for your incredible recipe. On the other hand, I have spent 24 hours trying for a suggestion - no go. This is a spectacular recipe! Big thumbs up!
Sorry, Liz! I really couldn't help myself.
I've got it! I'm gonna nickname this awesome drink Sex On Fire, and sip it while listening to Kings of Leon. Reminds me of Sex On The Beach a little. The, um, cocktail? ;)
That's a much more PC name than mine! Though it makes me wonder about your sex life a little bit, mrslarkin ;)
It;s Great I love the title...
Thanks! I couldn't resist after the idea hit me.
Thanks! All compliments should go to my brother!
It looks lovely - a big well done to your brother. Was he making up for years of being the 'not-best brother in the world'....like mine would? Anyhow, really superb!
Lucky for me, my brother has been pretty decent, so he doesn't have to make up for anything!
I love it! I am nominating it for official drink of the DNC! Thanks for the laugh!
Maybe I should try to market it ;)
Thanks, Midge!
Gorgeous cocktail! I'll find an excuse to try this as soon as possible.
Thanks! If you get a chance to try it, let me know how you like it.
Thanks, ellenl!
This is amazing!! I loved the idea, and now that I can see it, I love it even more. Cheers, hardlikearmour!
Bottoms up, gingerroot!
This is fantastic! Well done. Especially love the name.
Thank you!
Wow!!!!!! Absolutely brilliant. I have to ask - did you chug it like a shot, or stylishly sip it? Or both? ;)
I chugged, my brother stirred and sipped. It goes down really easily!
Thanks, drbabs!
When I was in high school, drinking fire was a party trick--one that landed one of the boys (who had a full beard at the time) in the hospital with burns on his face. Be careful!!
That's why I blow it out before drinking! Don't want to catch my hair on fire or singe my eyebrows or worse!
Gorgeous!!!
Thanks! My brother's photo came out better than I'd hoped for.
I love this recipe! So creative!
Thanks! It was fun to experiment to make this one.
Thanks!
Kudos! To you and your brother for the flame photo. This is fabulous. Now I will have to get some pomegranate liqueur to try this. Will need company for this one! Maybe when my friend from Belarus visits at the end of next month we will have a very special toast!
My brother does HDR photos which I thought would work really well for the picture. Started to rain before it got dark so my friend held an umbrella, I lit the drink, and my brother took the photos! It's a pretty tasty drink. The OJ and ginger area great as a pair - had to sample a few failed pours while I was practicing ;)
My brother informed me the photo is not HDR - which won't work with movement from the flame.
What time is cocktail hour!
Anytime it's dark enough to see the flames!
Beautiful, great research too, and do you have liquor syringes on hand at all times? :-)
Yep, I do! They are great for drizzling sugar syrups onto cake layers. It helps that I'm a veterinarian; makes for easy access.
That's awesome - Ginger needs a bortadella booster, maybe I can mooch a couple off my vet!
Gorgeous! And delicious sounding. Oh, and possibly the best recipe name yet! :)
Thanks! When I was trying to come up with a name, I was going "ginger-orange-pomegranate in my head, then went g-o-p, laughed, and had the name!
Beautiful! I think Amanda and Merrill just wanted an excuse for Happy Hour this week! Can't wait to drink, er, I mean "test" some of these!
Thanks! I was pretty giddy with how it turned out, probably from sampling too many!
