I started cooking when I was a teenager, helping my mom out with making dinner. We would plan meals together, and then in the afternoons she would call me from work, and guide me through it. But she was no ordinary cook. Everything was made from scratch, and back in the '70s she was working her way through the Time/Life "Foods of the World Cookbooks", which was adventerous for the time. My sister, who is a frequent contributer and a contest winner, introduced me to food52. What a great resource! When I'm not cooking or gardening, I paint oil paintings, sew wedding gowns, and catalogue images in the Art History database at GMU.
