I grew up in a restaurant family (my parents owned the now closed Quilted Giraffe in NYC) and I've always loved to cook. My interest in the connection between food and health led me to pursue a graduate degree in naturopathic medicine. I don't practice medicine anymore; I have a blog called Healthy Green Kitchen that I started in May of 2009. I spent many years as a vegetarian but nowadays I enjoy eating just about everything. I have a large organic garden and grow lots of my own vegetables; I try to buy everything else as locally/seasonally/organically as possible. I live in upstate New York and I have two kids, two dogs, four cats, 9 chickens, and 2 turtles. I like to knit when time allows and I have a black belt in karate.
