ABOUT THIS COOK:

I'm a writer and editor in San Diego who loves markets and playing with my food. I'm a food columnist for SDNN.com, and write for Saveur, Edible San Diego, culinate.com, and the San Diego Union-Tribune. And, like any good foodie, I have a blog. It's called San Diego Foodstuff.

  • What is the strangest food you have ever eaten?
A Moreton Bay Bug. Actually, it's just a lobster, but the name throws people so I love to say it.

  • What do you cook when home alone?
I live alone so I cook the same kinds of full meals I would if I had others in my household.

  • Your most treasured kitchen possession:
It used to be my sleek stainless steel Italian stovetop espresso maker. But after 25 years it fell apart.... So, I guess in an evacuation, I'd grab my knives. Actually, I have been evacuated and I did grab the knives. So there.

  • The ideal number of guests for a dinner party is:
I like eight, It offers lots of opportunities for cross chat.
