I'm an editor by profession and a writer and cook by passion. After inheriting part of my grandmother's recipe collection, I decided it was time to start exploring long-neglected Eastern European cuisine and attempt to make it as sexy and appealing as Italian or French food to today's cooks. Along the way I weave in family stories and memories in a celebration of how food enriches our experience of life, and each other.
What is the strangest food you have ever eaten?
Head cheese. More for the name than anything in it.
What do you cook when home alone?
Simple pasta (a favourite, called "Liam's Noodles," is named after a friend's son who went through a phase in which one of the only things he'd eat was noodles tossed in butter and tamari) and anything that goes with a poached egg on top.
Your most treasured kitchen possession:
My grandmother's bezelled cutting board. She got it as a shower gift in 1946.
