A&M are joined by The Amateur Gourmet himself, Adam Roberts, as they make clintonhillbilly's Thai-Inspired Asparagus Salad with Fried Meyer Lemon. Together, A&M&A discuss asparagus-trimming policy -- to snap or not to snap? -- and teach each other cool tricks for frying and blanching that help cooks get away from exacting instructions for temperatures and times.
At one point, the phrase "Amanda Hesser gone wild" is actually uttered, and things get a little PG-13 -- it's safe to say you'll never think about blanching asparagus the same way again.
You can see more of the delightful Adam Roberts at www.amateurgourmet.com, on Twitter @amateurgourmet and in his book The Amateur Gourmet.

Had to watch this again. It's Monday morning, after all, and I needed a chuckle to start my week! Great spoon-in-the-hot-oil trick, Adam! I've used wooden chopsticks for this, too!
Terrific video. Very refreshing with simplicity. Thanks, we all need a dash of simplicity in our lives. The recipe is fabulous. Can't wait to share with family and friends.

Hey! You are right about my screen name, I did live in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, but I just moved to L.A. in August. I miss Clinton Hill!

You gals are total crazy cats! Love it! I like your videos and don't think they need anything (except the mics - which I am running my donation campaign to get - so, all you Food52 followers, let me know if you want to chip in so you can hear every word of Amanda and Merrill's fabulous instructions!)
One question, when eating the Thai asparagus with the fried lemons, are you supposed to eat them together as two components of the same dish? I only ask because you all ate them separately - I would cut them up as I ate them and put a little bit of everything on my fork.

The salad looks fantastic. Cannot wait to try with the fresh fresh fresh asparagus I just picked up. Oh, this video make me giggle. Thanks for a good time this Saturday morning.
good recipe and cool but no offense your videos are horrible. bad shooting bad editing. i wish you had the working class foodie shot your show, i found them through your site actually and there show is the best show on the web even if their just amateurs.

added over 2 years agoThank you for your comment and sorry you don't like our "no-budget" videos. We do them in one take with a Flip camera and edit them in one day. It's our food version of Dogma 95. Yes, we could use some microphones. Yes, we could use some lighting. But until we have more money, we're aiming for fun/informative over polish. Hope you'll reconsider!
Hee hee! That was fun! Minds out of the gutter, ladies! ;)
So fun two of my favorite blogs cooking together! Thanks for the great tips!
You guys are silly! Love the video ... I confess to being a snapper, will think twice form now on!!
