Sasha's 90(ish) Seconds on Wine

Moscato d'Asti and Italian Desserts

March 18, 2010

Sasha recommends a floral, refreshing Marenco Moscato d'Asti from Piedmont that won't try to out-sweet your Italian desserts. Be sure to watch the video till the end, where you'll see a little friend who seems to have had a bit too much Moscato d'Asti herself.

Though food52's discount at Bottlerocketwine.com normally only applies to still wines, they have generously extended it to this week's bubbly selection. For a 10% online discount on this and other wines, enter this promotional code at checkout through the end of March: 52MAR10.

Your advices on wine pairing to desserts is absolutely spot on, and highly informative. I actually tried that Moscato D'Asti and highly appreciated it, especially for it's versatility, capacity to be paired with a huge range of desserts. In summer, with light desserts, this is a winner.

Thanks so much, I really appreciate it! So glad you liked the Moscato d'Asti -- and yes, it's perfect as the weather turns warmer. So great with fruit and lemon desserts.

I am thinking about making my ebelskivers with pecorino and honey tomorrow - and it sounds like this will be a good match for them as well - do you think so? I love the sunny side up doggy ... oh to be so relaxed ....

Have never tried ebelskivers, but based on a quick look at your recipe, I think that's a great idea -- let me know how it works out!

Oh, also, love the "sunny side up" description -- clearly this is now how my husband and will refer to this pose.

Funny coincidence - I am just back from a lovely dinner at Sanford, where I had enjoyed my very first glass of Moscato D'Asti, with dessert, at the recommendation of the sommelier. I usually opt for espresso after dinner, but this was such a nice and special and refreshing change (everyone should try at least once!).

Glad you liked it. It's also really nice as an aperitif before dinner. I also love it with brunch, or even all by itself.

Thanks, Sasha! I love Moscato D'Asti. Cute doggy! That's pretty much how I end up after a couple glasses of booze...
