Far Out Food

August 16, 2012

After this summer's Mars landing, we've got outer space on the mind. And as usual, we have food on the mind, too. Ever wondered what astronauts eat? Ever wondered how they get their vitamins? (Or better yet, have you tried "astronaut food" from a giftshop in the airport, only to discover that freeze-dried ice cream sandwiches taste exactly the way you'd expect them to? Not that we've experienced this...)

Space Nutrition, an iPad e-book for kids, has the answers to your questions. The e-book explores how NASA’s Nutritional Biochemistry Laboratory works to meet the nutritional requirements of astronauts -- basically, this lab makes sure that the astronauts are eating their broccoli (or whatever the equivalent of that is in space food). According to the folks at The Huffington Post, this book provides readers with exceptional pictures and explains the dangers of rogue crumbs.
