We're looking for a savvy cook and pithy writer who's also a news junkie to help us launch a new area of the site. It would be a 3 to 6 month internship.
If any of the following don't apply to you, this may not be your thing:
- You have a flexible schedule
- You can work at home; good internet helps
- You live in or near Brooklyn so we can meet there now and then
- You're a voracious reader of all things food and you have strong opinions about it
- You love social media like Facebook and Twitter and know your way around an amusing status update
- You have an eye for trends and aren't afraid to call out the faux ones
- You're not easily derailed by a sometimes annoying admin system on our site

This would be so awesome - if only childcare were offered! :) I'll keep my eye out and let you know if I meet anyone in my everyday nyc encounters, though. And, once my child starts school next year I'll be totally available (haha!)

In all seriousness (rare for me) I did attend the first Foodbuzz Festival which turned out to be like Sundance for food bloggers. I somehow captured Ryan Adams on my Flip video although we never met through the entire event. Found out afterwards. But I did meet a lot of really nice people there. Hell, I travel I meet people, I make friends. Sometimes I get to cook for them.
I love the idea of a food52 hang out event!

I can handle the hours part but I don't live in Brooklyn. I don't live anywhere really, but I do move around a bit and blog from far off locations like Chicago and Monterey and Staten Island. But I don't Twitter. That's part of my charm. I take notes in long hand too. My motto is speak softly but travel with a big, sharp knife. And a Flip camera.

You may wish to review the Fair Labor Standards Act and applicable state corollaries. You don't want to violate minimum wage laws.

Actually, it's against the law to use unpaid interns in California, except in extraordinary circumstances, and then only if you jump through a bunch of hoops (typically, meeting certain requirements and implementing certain practices and conditions related to the services) . . . . I don't know about NY, but I do know that labor laws everywhere have gotten really tough. Your corporate counsel should be able to fill you in on this, and how to get around it. I'm a lawyer too but this is not legal advice . . . just chiming in that you need to consult someone qualified in this subject area, in your jurisdiction. Good luck! ;o)
I feel like if it's just considered a volunteer position it shouldn't be an issue! I think it's a fantastic opportunity!
That's the way it should be, but the laws are really tough and are getting more difficult all the time. I agree it's a fantastic opportunity. I'd grab it in a nanosecond if I weren't 2900 miles away, with clients to whom I've made commitments!

Awww, if I hadn't already given my entire 2009 to the Brooklyn Food Coalition for free I would definitely be jumping on this! Check on all qualifications. Phooey. If you need someone for just 5 hours a week I'm yours ;)
