Good grief, people, go back to the roots! Fondue pots are not Harvest Gold or Avocado Green!! The best fondue pots are RED. There is the Valentine link!!
And okay, okay, it was the 70s when my family spent a lot of time in Switzerland. But we never stopped eating fondue.
Not sure if I'm vintage or retro but I love fondue. One man's chocolate tower was always my fondue! Making a champagne fondue for a party tonight as a matter of fact. Apple, pears, french bread basics but using bubbly to add to the spirit of my Un Valentine party.
So wish I still had my Avocado Green fondue pot from the 1970's and hippie days - remembering the chocolate fondue parties that were preceded by you-know-what ;)
Lord have mercy. I had a fondue pot that I got for a wedding present in 1975. Three or four moves later, it bit the dust, and I think at that point it was unused. Never made fondue in my life. I'll leave this one to y'all.
This is way too 70's. Couldn't we take on "your best gumbo" or something.? I know you people in the East and upper Midwest are frozen into your ice caves and surviving on Velveeta and pretzels but hey....I'm cooking for Valentines Day now and there won't be any fondue around the place.
lol pierino and mrsl! fondue has made a comeback, sir, as evidenced by melting pot and other fondue restaurants across the country. it was also featured on top chef this week.
Interesting! I've been craving fondue, but I usually only make the old-school variety, with a mixture of Swiss cheeses, white wine, and some kirsch to finish. Can't wait to see all the variations on the theme. :)

Sorry, didn't mean to induce any involuntary tea spewing...

Lastnightsdinner, don't call me Shirley. Something "up my sleeve" is right out of moose and squirrel.
pierino, you made me spew my tea out my nose and all over my keyboard!
Teeheehee.

what?
I think this is a great contest idea. It makes dinner such a fun event. Everyone participates and experiments. A perfect social occasion.
Could I go off the reservation with raclette? Similar idea. But fondue brings back images of really big, big hair and polyester leisure suits.
Yeah, do a raclette! Have you ever seen Claude Stahel's youtube videos? He's so funny, in his little truck. Also, I dig his apron.

I love raclette. I have a raclette oven. Not much cooking involved, though?

It's totally vintage...which makes it hipster...which makes it oh so now. ;)
Pierino, surely you've got a killer bagna cauda or somesuch up your sleeve?
Would "fondue" include variations of hot pot or shabu shabu or not?

:)
Do we need to employ one of those fondue thingamajigees for this contest? Cause I recently sent mine off to good will. :(

added about 1 year agoNah, we barely had one between the lot of us! Any vessel is fair game as long as you can keep it hot.
Funny, I bought one in Harvest Gold for my brother just recently at the Citywide garage sale. One man's trash...
