If only these presses were just jamming drawers. I worry about all the innocent burgers out there, needlessly loosing their juices at the hands of these evil presses.

To be honest I have never seen or heard of presses before - so was quite amazed when I saw the piccies. Here in Oz we adore our bbq'd food and would never dream of shoving a heavy item on top to weigh the poor meat/burger down.

Is it to stop the meat/burger from trying to escape perhaps??

Amanda - I did see a TV program recently where the cook put a concrete block covered in foil on top of 2 butterflied chickens on a bbq and I could definitely see the reasoning behind that - they turned out superb. So will be giving that a whirl this coming summer.

Agree about burgers but presses are great for lots of other things, like cooking bacon, chicken (like chicken under a brick), and grilled cheese.

Hey come on guys - we have to keep stocking up our 2nd and 3rd kitchen drawers with all these items, otherwise we would have nothing to complain about when the drawer jams shut with another useless item getting caught in the opening!!

So good old W/S comes up with another not only useless item, but ill treatment to innocent meat is grounds for divorce.

Sorry, but haven't we now heard a thousand times now that you're *not* supposed to press burgers on the grill, since this will press the juices out of them?
